Give BLood Save Life

UCSI University, together with the Student Nurses’ Association and Pusat Darah Negara is organizing a blood donation drive in conjunction with International Nurses’ Day on the 21st of May 2010

There are 10 reasons why we donate blood:
  1. Blood transfusions save lives.
  2. There are no substitutes for human blood.
  3. Every three seconds, someone needs a blood transfusion.
  4. About 60% of the populations are eligible to donate blood, yet less than 5% do.
  5. A pint of blood, separated in to components, can help up to three people.
  6. You will make your community a safer place.
  7. Fulfills your desire to “give back” to the community.
  8. You will receive a mini physical (blood pressure, temperature, iron level).
  9. You will learn your blood type.
  10. It is safe, simple and it saves lives.

They also set up some posters to educate student on the health care and some common diseases that appear on the people with unhealthy lifestyle.

Besides that, there were also a breast examination booth to teach us the way to check our breast in the correct way.

The key to breast cancer cure is early detection. The longer it takes for a patient to know, the harder the cancer is to treat. To detect the illness, conducting a personal check is the fastest and easiest way.

In fact, self-examination has led to the detection of nearly ninety-five percent of breast cancer cases. That is why it is important for every woman, regardless of age, to know how to do a breast cancer personal check.

They also gave us some booklet for further reading.
